Wait. There’s Another TED?
Yes.
Actually, there are a few.
And if you’ve been following the story, you may already know exactly who we’re talking about. San Diego, it turns out, has room for all of them.
Wait — THAT Ted?
There’s a conference called TED.
It started in 1984 as a single event, founded by Richard Saul Wurman and Harry Marks.
Today it’s a global nonprofit — short talks, shared online, on everything from science to business to the biggest questions we’re all trying to answer.
No relation to Theodore Roosevelt. No relation to the bear.
Just… TED.
Coincidence? Probably. Fitting? Absolutely.
And San Diego has its own chapter of that story: TEDxSanDiego, an independently organized local event bringing the same spirit of ideas worth spreading to our city.

Then there’s the other other Ted.
A bear. A movie. A voice by Seth MacFarlane.
He’s irreverent, inappropriate, outspoken, and definitely not designed for bedtime.
He is, unmistakably, still a teddy bear. Just… not the one your parents remember.
Ted Comes Back Around
And then, somehow, Ted became wholesome again.
Coach Ted Lasso. Relentlessly optimistic. Believes in people. Probably would’ve liked Theodore Roosevelt.
Different Ted. Different decade. Same name, same warmth the story started with.
Why Are They Part of the Story?
Because the teddy bear didn’t stay in the nursery.
TED became a president’s nickname, a stuffed animal, a conference, a comedy, a coach — and somehow, still one continuous name.
TED.
TEDDY.
TED B.
THE OTHER TED.
The story keeps evolving.
And every fall, San Diego is where all these Teds — the president, the bear, Ted B, and the rest — end up sharing the spotlight.
